The original piece was a school desk which encompasses the history of its life in education. Still in education, reimagined…….

The inspiration behind this piece is based on the beauty of found objects and recycled materials. Constructed in birch, inlaid with Yew and laburnum blanks that were destined for fire wood, these pieces were set in an epoxy resin to encompass all components into one piece. Painstakingly sanded to produce the soft look and finish

Inspired by the book –

The Art of Coorie How to live Happy the Scottish way….and the Cow Horn chair by Hans Wegner 1952

My love for long walks in the Scottish highlands, swimming in the Scottish lochs and embracing the magic of the beasts that I meet on my journeys

A beast and a half is a recycled piece using sustainable materials - locally sourced Scottish oak and recycled leather that was destined for landfill. This piece grew during lockdown, into the beast that it is today……then it gave birth.

I am constantly inspired by the world of design, including interiors, photography and architecture, ideally all three combined would be perfect. For me, education is about encouraging creative discussions, developing thoughts and embracing the beauty as well as the function in our everyday life, design should be useful yet appealing. I feel education is as much about student development as well as my own journey with the desire for more information through courses, self development and drawing. Anyone that knows me, or has been in my classes knows I am a huge messy drawer, but I enjoy it that way!

Highlights this year has been seeing all the HND project work come together through the website, the interesting and informative chats, in class on campus days, with the NC group and the giggles at the HNC group for their unique style.

This year has been such an inspiring time to be a lecturer. Our students have been amazing as they have adapted to a total whirlwind of new technologies & new ways of learning & creating.

I have loved how the students have brought the briefs to life and come up with innovative & inspiring solutions for some of the challenges we have set them.

Highlights for this year have definitely been the beach clean with my fab NC’s (even though they were slightly dubious when I asked them to re-design a toilet they totally smashed it!), designing our penguins for the Penguin Parade with the HNC’s and seeing the fab solutions to the Harvey Nics brief with the HND’s. We were so lucky to have such great support from industry on that one! I’m looking forward to next year when we will hopefully get back in the design studio to work together again.
