Life @ Fife College.
We believe there is more to life at Fife College than simply studying for your course. Throughout your time here we will organise trips away to inspiring places, Christmas markets, quizzes and more. Learning to be a designer means learning to appreciate life in general, and so our aim is to have as much fun as we can, while teaching you what we love!
Trip to London.
In March 2020 we all took a trip to London. (before #CovidLockdown made us all stay home!) We had so much fun visiting all of the amazing sights such as The British Museum and The Shard. We also visited a well known industry event called #Futurebuild to learn more about the latest products and technologies which can help us when we are creating our designs.
We are looking forward to when Covid restrictions are lifted so that we can plan our next adventure!
Christmas Quiz.
Each year we hold a Christmas Quiz to pit the best brains of the courses against each other. This year we had to adapt to the restrictions that we were working within to suppress Covid. Never ones to be defeated, we held our first virtual Christmas quiz, with the fabulous Karen doing an excellent job as quizmaster!
Site Visits.
Understanding the buildings which you are designing is an important part of being a good designer. We frequently make trips out and about so that we can survey and photograph the real spaces we are re-designing. This helps enormously when creating our designs as it allows us to visualise each space we are creating.
Competitions.
We try to take part in a number of design competitions each year. Some examples from previous years include a competition to re-design the entrance to our St Brycedale Campus, with the winning design going forward to be used as the basis for the redevelopment of the new campus.
We designed a showhome for an international company called #Clivet with the 2 winning designers being whisked off to the company head office in Northern Italy for a tour of the factory and some wining and dining. (read lots of delicious pasta & prosecco!)
Each year the Furniture students design a wooden bench for the Woodland Trust with the winning design being given pride of place in a local woodland to enhance the area for our local communities.
